Max Scheler was born August 22, 1874 in Munich, Germany. He received his doctorate in 1897 at the University of Jena. His inaugural dissertation was accepted there in 1899. He taught philosophy at Jena University from 1900-1906, and at Munich University form 1907-1910. A freelance writer until 1919, he produced an unusually large number of publications.
